- Apple TV (latest version) (free app) - This generally plays all videos and for me is the go to device to play anything that any other device is unable to.
- XBOX One (free app) - About the same reliability as the Apple TV so its pretty impressive that it plays so many video types. That said I use it much less than the AppleTV and Roku because the system takes quite a bit to start up and isn't instantly on like everything else on this list.
- ROKU TVs/devices (free app) - These play about 95% of the files on the server, these I use most often as they are built in on pretty much all our TVs/Projectors
- Safari/Firefox browsers (free) - I would say they play about 85% of the videos. YMMV though, I generally don't play through browsers as the experience is a bit klunky
- Chrome/chromium browsers (free) - I would say they play about 75% of the videos. YMMV though, I generally don't play through browsers as the experience is a bit klunky
- IOS App iphone/ipad ($6) - works well, probably close to the same success in playing videos as the Apple TV but heavily reliant on your internet connection.
- Built in (non-roku)TV Plex App (Usually Free) - In most cases these suck and maybe only 50% or less of the movies actually play. I've seen weird stuff like audio getting out of sync with the video too. I would usually tell people not to bother but technology advances faster than my willingness to update this post so YMMV.
- Android devices - no real experience with these, I'm guessing YMMV as there is so many different kinds. Other resources of info: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX
